The Quality Engineer (QE) is responsible for supporting the maintenance and continual improvement of the Quality Management System (QMS). This position requires working in the Sacramento office as well as travel to offices in the Central Valley.

Position Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain quality processes and procedures related to the QMS, including creating and revising quality-related documentation and performing technical editing as the final quality control reviewer.
  • Create annual quality audit plans based on input from stakeholders and support both internal and external quality audits following best practices from ISO 19011 guidelines.
  • Monitor and support the issuance, resolution, and closure of open nonconformances and corrective actions.
  • Maintain and improve the nonconformance and corrective action tracking system in SharePoint.
  • Support process improvement activities utilizing Lean, Six Sigma, and other quality improvement tools.
  • Support quality-related risk identification and mitigation activities.
  • Review regulatory and legal changes that impact the QMS and support necessary revisions to procedures and processes.
  • Support the development and continuous improvement of quality-related metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Develop, update, and maintain a lessons learned program.
  • Provide ongoing evaluations and recommendations concerning deficiencies, strengths, and potential internal and external risks.
  • Support quality representation in ongoing handover activities.
  • Provide additional support as requested.
Supervision/Management
  • Provide supervision, guidance, and mentoring for other quality engineers, including those with suppliers and contractors.
  • Manage milestones and ensure the successful completion of tasks.
  • Oversee quality program activities to ensure roles, responsibilities, processes, and procedures are properly documented, understood, and implemented.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills; this role requires producing reports and deliverables, and writing samples may be requested during the interview process.
  • B.S. in Engineering, Quality Management, or a related field of study, or relevant experience may be considered based on qualifications.
  • ASQ Certified Six Sigma Green Belt (CSSGB) or equivalent.
  • ASQ Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) or equivalent.
  • 10-20 years of professional experience in quality management, with at least five years working on megaprojects.
  • Experience working in organizations certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 45001.
  • Experience supervising and managing small work teams, tracking budgets, and overseeing the development and completion of tasks and deliverables.
  • Proficiency in developing and revising process flowcharts.
  • Experience in the transportation sector or a related industry, such as infrastructure, rail, transit, or large-scale public works projects.
Preferred Qualifications/Certifications/Licensures
  • Ability to present data and prepare presentations for executive staff.
  • Strong computer and database management skills, including SharePoint and Microsoft Office.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Solid understanding of process improvements through Six Sigma, Lean, ISO 9001, and the Baldrige Performance Excellence framework.
  • Strong problem-solving, workload management, and organizational skills with limited supervision.
  • Professional, self-motivated, team player with strong collaboration skills.
  • Ability to contribute effectively as part of a team involving staff, clients, and outside agencies.
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and tasks.
  • Ability to make decisions using sound professional judgment.
  • Ability to lead a team to successfully complete tasks and deliverables.
  • Ability to coach, mentor, prioritize, and manage the daily work of team members.
Approximate Base Salary range $110,000 - $200,000 per year
